June 15th-19th: Fairies and Fools: Ages 9+
Fairies and Fools is a week long performing arts camp that introduces students to Shakespeare through IMPROV comedy, imagination, and play. Using Shakespeare’s most mischievous characters, including fairies, fools, dreamers, and overthinkers, campers explore how humor, misunderstanding, and big emotions create great stories.
This camp blends short scripted scenes with guided improvisation, comedy games, music, and movement. Students learn how characters from different Shakespearean worlds might collide, interrupt one another, and attempt to make sense of a world that feels delightfully out of order. The focus is on ensemble storytelling rather than memorization or perfection.
Dates: July 6-10th
Ages: 9+
Time: 9am-3pm
Location: Strawberry Park Elementary & The Branham Amphitheater (located on the same grounds)
Each day, campers build skills in acting, physical comedy, vocal expression, and collaboration. Improv games teach listening, confidence, and the art of saying “yes, and.” Scripted moments provide structure and support, while improvisation allows students to take creative risks in a safe, playful environment. Music and rhythm are woven throughout the week to support timing, transitions, and group awareness.
The phrase “tragically funny” reflects Shakespeare’s gift for blending comedy with big feelings. Campers explore exaggerated emotions, mistaken identity, and dramatic reactions in age appropriate ways, learning how humor can reveal truth, build empathy, and bring people together.
No prior theatre experience is required. Fairies and Fools is ideal for students who love storytelling, imagination, and humor, as well as those who may feel nervous about traditional performance settings but thrive when creativity and collaboration are emphasized.
The week culminates in a short performance for families that combines scripted scenes, improvised moments, music, and audience friendly comedy. Each performance is unique, shaped by the ideas and energy of the ensemble.
Fairies and Fools invites young artists to discover that Shakespeare’s world is not distant or difficult, but playful, surprising, and full of laughter.
