Our next season opens at the Branham Amphitheater in June. We are building it around three threads: the worlds of Roald Dahl, the visual storytelling of Wes Anderson, and female narratives.
Through the fall and winter you will find us in the schools and at camp. Summer titles and dates will be announced this winter.
Summer 2027 Children’s Cast
In Summer 2027, young performers will have the opportunity to audition for Piknik Theatre’s summer musical at the Branham Amphitheatre and become part of our professional summer company. Selected children will rehearse, act, sing, and perform alongside members of Piknik’s professional cast, experiencing firsthand what it takes to bring a full-scale production to the stage.
More than simply appearing in the show, our Children’s Cast will be welcomed into the creative process as young artists, building confidence, developing their skills, and learning from working theatre professionals.
Participation in the Children’s Cast requires a full-month commitment to rehearsals and performances during the summer, giving young performers the opportunity to experience the complete process of creating and performing a professional production.

Bringing Stories to Life for Littles
Fairy Tale Theatre
Fairy Tale Theatre is Piknik Theatre’s playful introduction to live performance for our youngest audience members and their families. These lively, interactive shows bring familiar stories to life through music, movement, humor, and plenty of opportunities for children to become part of the fun.
Created especially for young audiences, Fairy Tale Theatre gives children a chance to experience the magic of live theatre in a relaxed setting where wiggling, laughing, responding to the actors, and joining in are all part of the experience. It is an easy, welcoming way for families to share theatre together.
Through partnerships with Bud Werner Memorial Library and local schools, Fairy Tale Theatre pops up in welcoming community spaces throughout the Yampa Valley during our summer season. These partnerships allow us to bring live theatre directly to the places where children and families already gather, making it easy, accessible, and fun to experience a show together.

Accessibility in the Arts
Arts Fusion Partnership: Creative Care In and Out of the Classroom
Through our in-school education and collaborative Arts Fusion programming with Opera Steamboat and Steamboat Dance Theatre, we bring performing arts education directly into the classroom and create more ways for children to participate throughout the year.
That commitment extends beyond the school day. Piknik provides creative, safe programming during School Days Off, summer and winter breaks, and other times when families need meaningful care for their children. We also partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs to reach young people in our community and provide tuition-free classes for our English Language Learner (ELL) student population.
By bringing theatre, music, movement, and storytelling into the places where children already learn, gather, and spend their time, we remove some of the practical and financial barriers that can keep young people from participating in the arts. These programs give more children the opportunity to create, build confidence, discover new interests, and know that there is a place for them in our local arts community.
Access to the arts should not depend on a family’s income, transportation, or ability to seek out opportunities outside of school.

Because of their belief in the power of the arts to shape young lives, more kids across the Yampa Valley can step into the spotlight and into the audience — through camp scholarships that open our programs to every aspiring performer regardless of cost, and through Fairy Tale Theatre, our series of free, family-friendly productions for our youngest neighbors. The Foundation’s partnership ensures that wonder, creativity, and the joy of live theatre belong to all children, not just some.
